Eyewitness’ rich history goes way back to 1820 when John Taylor set up a pocketknife and edge tools workshop. The name was inspired by a line in Shakespeare’s Henry IV – “No eye hath seen better”. Little mesters crafted cutlery here from 1852 to 2018, when the Taylor’s Eye Witness moved out.
Standing alongside Eyewitness Works is Ceylon Works, a former horn-cutters works, used for cutlery handles. Brunswick is also a nod to the past, named after Brunswick Hotel, a former pub which closed its doors in 1964.
In 2019, Eyewitness was home to Phlegm's Mausoleum of the Giants, an art installation of towering creatures that drew in over 12,000 visitors. The renowned street artist came back to Eyewitness to memoralise one of his peaceful giants on
