First look of striking Goods Yard façade in Stoke-on-Trent revealed

Capital&Centric have revealed a first glimpse at what the newest building on the Stoke-on-Trent skyline will look like.

Work on the Goods Yard neighbourhood is powering ahead. Now, the first façade panels – in a rich terracotta clay colour – have been installed on the building that will be home to 174 design-led rental apartments.

The striking curved panels span two floors of the building at ground level and are made offsite at a specialist factory in the Midlands from precast concrete. Locals will start to see a big change on site over the coming weeks as they’re craned into place and secured piece by piece.

Inspired by the industrial heritage of Stoke-on-Trent, the façade has been designed specifically for the Goods Yard, with the details aimed at acknowledging the proud local history of craftsmanship.

It comes just weeks after a major milestone was reached on site, with the 10-storey apartment building hitting its highest point at 34m when social impact developers Capital&Centric and Stoke-on-Trent City Council marked a year since construction began.  All works are on course  to be completed early 2025.

It's planned for the district to be super sustainable too, with work to connect Goods Yard to the local, low carbon District Heat Network also completed this summer.

Tom Wilmot, Joint Managing Director at Capital&Centric, said:

“People will have seen the towering concrete frame going up, but it’s exciting to give people a true first look at what the main building will look like when it’s done. The colour is striking and the curved, corrugated pattern has been specifically designed so it’s a landmark that’s unique to Stoke-on-Trent.

“With the Goods Yard neighbourhood now really taking shape, we’ve got an exciting few months ahead. We’ll soon be revealing more details about the work and leisure spaces and starting our search for some amazing operators that will eventually call the neighbourhood home.”

Councillor Chris Robinson, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Planning at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said:

“It’s fantastic progress to see the building façade start to go up and the character of the residential building emerge. This finish will be highly distinctive and unique to Stoke-on-Trent as well as in keeping with our city’s great heritage.

“This is set to be a stand-out development in Stoke providing quality accommodation that residents can be proud of. This will complement plans for thriving leisure spaces and workspaces as well as providing new jobs; all bringing a real boost to the area.”
